Berlin stories - Issue #6
Hello hello and happy Wednesday! (I'll never learn to spell this word correctly from the first time).
Today's issue is kinda travel centered. I assume it'll be the case until the end of September because I have quite a lot of trips scheduled.
🧳 Travel
It was a busy week! Last Friday we flew to Berlin and we're still here. I've been to Berlin last time in 2019 and I was looking forward to visiting the city again. I always enjoyed the vibe here. Especially the central areas like Friedrichshain (we live here) and Kreuzberg. To me, Berlin seems like a perfect representation of freedom and a bit of rebellion. Perfect combination if you'd ask me.
Berlin is balancing post-soviet architecture (especially in the eastern parts) with modern buildings. With a lot of graffiti and posters on the walls. People still look amazing and it's interesting to notice how people express themselves. This city is definitely special to me.
It so happened many of my friends and people I know from the Internet live here. So this trip was mostly to meet with friends and have reunions. It was awesome to see everyone again.
We also visited the Moderat concert. I thought about visiting their concert in Amsterdam. But the band is from Berlin so it felt much better to go here. It was a great concert except that the start of it was delayed by two hours. Many people said it's normal for Berlin so just roll with it.
Another thing I've been planning this week is a trip with my Mom. I don't want to go to Russia so she'll drive to Estonia and I fly there in a week. The goal is to make a little road trip with Mom to Western Europe. She's never been anywhere outside of post soviet territories. Unfortunately, the border rules change every day. There is a big chance that in a week Estonia will close the border with Russia for good. So we constantly have to adjust the plans to make everything happen. Hopefully, the Finland border still will open.
📺 YouTube
I finally published a new YouTube video after 3 months break! It's a great feeling I always have when publishing a new video. Although I know it'll probably not perform well. It's a thing about posting videos after the break. YouTube algorithm kinda testing if you're really back and if they should push your content a bit more. So after a break, it usually takes a few videos to get back on track.
Anyway, I'm quite happy about it. It's a video about our trip to Svaneti (a mountain region in Georgia). I recently purchased a good mic and it was the first video where I used background voice on top of b-rolls. Cool experiment and I definitely enjoyed it and will be doing this more in the future. You can write a more thorough script with this technic so the flow is more smooth. When you speak straight to the camera it's harder to follow the script and look natural.
💻 Cool purchase
Since I already mention it, I bought a nice microphone. It's a package of Yeti mic and boom arm called Yeticaster. Mic sounds amazing straight from the source. It was great to use the sound right away without the need for any post-production. But of course, I'll be experimenting with sound tweaking a lot in the future. I need to dive into this on YouTube because I don't know much about sound.
The boom arm is also very nice and sturdy. It took some time to adjust its rigidity but once I did it moved perfectly.
🎁 Content I’m consuming
We completed Little Fires Everywhere and the series is fine. Nothing mind-blowing but it's a solid scenario by, I assume, a good book.
We started the third season of The Boys. The show was always insane but it feels like they are getting to a new hardcore level with each season. The third season is not an exception. Some of the scenes...let's just say I don't recommend watching it while eating. And never watch the show with kids. Apart from that, it's a lot of fun!
I've finished The work rules and the book was meeeeh. It feels more like Google hiring advertising rather than a useful book. It has a few insights about Google working culture but I wouldn't recommend spending time on it.
That's it for this week, see you next Wednesday! (made a spelling mistake again) and don't forget to send me anything by hitting the reply button!
